Biometric security

Biometric security can be extremely effective, and can open your eyes to a new world of security technology. But it can also be applied incorrectly and become an expensive, ineffective option.

Each biometric technology has its own unique advantages; no single biometric technology fits all applications. Applying the right technology is the key to success. Which is why Lexicon takes care to design each solution to the individual needs of the business.

Biometric traits are unique to each individual, and so can be used to identify individuals and hence can prevent theft or fraud. Unlike a password or PIN (personal identification number), a biometric trait cannot be forgotten, lost or stolen.

There are two main categories of biometric traits: physiological and behavioural.

  • Physiological: includes iris, fingerprint (including nail), hand (including knuckle, palm, vascular), face, voice, retina, DNA, even odor, earlobe, sweat pore, and lip.
  • Behavioural: includes signature, keystroke, and gait.
